CHARRON SERVICES LLC, SATELLITE BEACH

Her career began working with children in foster care, where she developed her first area of expertise, survivors of child sexual assault. She quickly learned that to help children she had to work with their parents, which lead her to develop skills in substance abuse assessment, intervention and treatment. and other local task forces. She helped create local standards for batterer intervention programs eventually becoming a member of the governor’s task force to develop state standards. She was active in the planning and implementation of the first BISC conference, which lead to the formation of BISCMI in 1995. She has served on the board ever since. After leaving Family service Inc. Jeffrie worked to create a jail based program for batterers with substance abuse problems and in the court system doing presentence investigations. in Washtenaw County, part time, in 2001 where she continues to facilitate groups, train and develop and refine curriculum. She also created programming for the MDOC and trained their staff on how to implement the program. In 2003 she became the director of Charron Services and started HEAL (Helping Explore Accountable Lifestyles) which meets through community corrections program in Oakland County. In 2005 she expanded services to include WEAVE (Women Exploring Accountably Violent Encounters) a program for women arrested for violence. In 2006 she moved her private practice to Charron Services where she works with a varied client population addressing issues of substance abuse, couples counseling, children, mental health issues, life adjustment, trauma and violence. Helping Explore Accountable Lifestyles Intervention Mission HEAL’s mission is to hold those who perpetrate domestic abuse and or violence accountable for their actions. We do this by providing an educational environment where men are helped to identify and acknowledge their use of violence or coercive control, and are offered an opportunity to explore personal accountability and options so that they can implement changes in their life. Intervention is designed to hold men accountable for their actions and beliefs. Intervention Philosophy Conceptual clarity is the process of ensuring that every part of a program is congruent with the underlying theory and goals. HEAL’s philosophy is firmly grounded in research and practice findings that domestic violence is a crime overwhelmingly committed by men against women. Abusive behaviour is a choice made by men that encompasses a range of coercively controlling actions that include purposeful, instrumental, and strategic behaviors used to control and dominate others for personal benefit. The HEAL Program is designed to intervene in the lives of men who abuse, in order to encourage accountability for the safety and respect of everyone. This is done with the presumption of competence and the belief that individuals have the ability to make accountable, sustainable change. The program is based on the concept that abuse as a choice and that participants need to integrate accountability into their lives. This is a self paced program that expects weekly homework from the workbook. The homework provides participants with an opportunity to increase awareness, identify issues, tactics, core beliefs and practice accountable options in their daily lives. Charron Services’ journey started with a desire to improve the lives of children. This focus expanded to encompass survivors of sexual assault (children, adults, male, female, transgender), substance use, trauma and domestic violence. In the last 15 years there has been expansion into working with agencies and other professionals to develop, improve, clarify, define and refine. The guiding principle for Charron Services is presumption of competence. The belief that everyone is capable of becoming who they would like to be. The work with men who’ve been abusive to their partners and with women who use force is rooted in historical experience working with individuals who have survived trauma and have multiple problems in their lives. Understanding that abuse is a choice individuals make and that a framework for individual accountability needs to be established and promoted are foundational in the intervention work. Charron Services is further committed to the necessity that the programs and services offered be done in conjunction with community collaboration. Therefore, we are involved in local, state and national councils and task forces.
