Clara Parker has been the executive director at Charlestown since 2012. Prior to joining the Charlestown team, Clara served as the vice president, regional finance director for Erickson Living, where she was responsible for the financial strategy of 8 of the 16 Erickson Living-managed campuses. She provided financial oversight, leadership development, and partnership with the finance team and executive teams of these campuses to ensure targeted outcomes and performance goals were achieved. Clara has over 30 years of experience in the not-for-profit finance arena and has spent the last 11 years in the senior living and health care sector.
Clara joined Oak Crest, an Erickson Living community in Parkville, MD, in 2005 as the finance director. In 2008, Clara took on a regional director role, providing mentoring, support, and financial guidance for five Erickson Living-managed communities in Maryland and Virginia with an extended focus on process improvement and re-engineering of financial operations. In 2010, Clara joined the corporate regional management team, partnering with the regional executive director and regional sales director, along with corporate and community stakeholders, to provide financial leadership and oversight for the supported campuses. Prior to joining Erickson Living, Clara was the senior director of finance for the American Red Cross national headquarters in Washington, DC.
Nathan Blumberg has over 14 years of experience in consulting and project management and had provided business and operational support in the health care, commercial, and government sectors. His areas of professional focus have included management and operations, program development, customer service, and strategic planning. He was an instrumental partner to Charlestown in opening and transitioning staff and residents to Caton Woods in November 2016.
Nathan began his career with Erickson Living in 2012 as a project manager and recently served as senior director of operations, health services. Prior to joining Erickson Living, Nathan was a lead associate at Booz Allen Hamilton and a public policy coordinator with CropLife America. He is a certified project manager and holds a bachelor of business administration from The George Washington University. Nathan lives in the Baltimore area with his wife Amanda and twin girls, Valerie and Victoria.
As director of resident life, she is responsible for the operations of the Resident Life department, including resident life administration, community resources (social programming), volunteer programming, social work services, intermissions, pastoral ministries, community television, fitness, home support, and certified home health.
Patti joined Charlestown in 2014 and is responsible for establishing, planning, directing, and coordinating all fundraising activities for the community. Patti also provides leadership for the creation of strategic fund development initiatives to include a major and planned giving program, annual giving, corporate and foundation giving, donor stewardship and recognition programs, and public relations related to development.
Charles Gamble is chairman of the Charlestown Board of Directors. He is the former president of Halkey-Roberts Corp., a major manufacturer of medical components. Mr. Gamble previously led operations for United Medical, Concept Inc., and Baxter International—each a manufacturer of medical products. After graduating from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, he served in the U.S. Navy with the Civil Engineering Corps (Seabees). Mr. Gamble holds a master's from Harvard Business School.
Richard M. Barnes is a partner at the Baltimore law firm of Goodell, DeVries, Leech & Dann, LLP. His practice includes the representation of clients in complex commercial and products liability litigation with an emphasis on medical legal issues. Mr. Barnes is a magna cum laude graduate of McDaniel College and received his law degree, cum laude, from the Georgetown University Law Center in 1981. He is active in various civic and charitable organizations.
Charles H. Brown III has been a Tax Director with the Baltimore accounting firm of Ellin and Tucker Chartered since 1981. He currently serves as Consultant for the firm. After graduating from Mount St. Mary’s College in 1968, Mr. Brown was with Price Waterhouse (Now PricewaterhouseCoopers) for 13 years. Mr. Brown has served on various committees of the Archdiocese of Baltimore. In addition, he has served on the Boards of the Bon Secours Baltimore Health Corporation and the Bon Secours Health System, Inc. (BSHSI). He is presently the Chair of the Board of Directors of BSHSI, serves on all committees of the BSHSI Board, and is a member of the Board of Bon Secours Ministries.
