At Chabad for Kids , we believe in learning by doing and learning while having fun. Chabad for Kids seeks to demystify the many Jewish holiday traditions and Mitzvot and bring them alive for our children. These workshops are designed to augment the programs and curriculum of Day Schools, Religious Schools and Youth Programs. By integrating science, Jewish holidays, Jewish tradition and the arts into interactive craft workshops, students of all ages can roll up their sleeves and discover Judaism’s ritual objects up close and personal. This connects them with the history and meaning of our age-old practices in an unprecedented way. The following pages will provide a brief digest of the factors which control the determination of the Jewish Shabbat begins at sunset and it is forbidden to light candles on Shabbat. In order to provide a margin for error, the accepted custom is to light the candles and usher in Shabbat eighteen minutes earlier.
