On May 20 2017, “Casting for a Cause” will hold its 9  (PWSA). This unique tournament will attract anglers from all over the State of Florida for the rare opportunity to compete in either offshore or inshore divisions all in one local area on the same day! You will also have the added bonus of helping to raise much needed funds for the children affected by this life threatening syndrome. Prader-Willi Syndrome is a rare, complex genetic disorder that occurs in 1:12,000 births and affects hundreds of children and adults in Florida alone. Children with this syndrome have an insatiable hunger, slower metabolism, cognitive impairment, difficult behaviors, weak muscle tone and other difficulties. They require years of physical, speech and occupational therapies as well as several very expensive medications, which include growth hormone shots to give them height and muscle mass, energy and help control life threatening obesity. Early intervention and continued research are key to providing these children with a chance to be the very best they can be and to have a chance for a happy and healthy lifestyle. Funds raised from this tournament will be used to support research projects, which will ultimately lead to a cure, provide education and resources to improve the quality of life for everyone with the syndrome as well as their families and support staff, and provide crisis support involving both school and medical issues which these children will face. Funding will also be used to promote awareness of the syndrome to the public and the school systems so they are able to better understand and provide support for the children with Prader-Willi Syndrome. We are extremely disappointed but it is just not possible.
