Established in 1982, by David W. Pickard Jr., AIA, PE (1933 - 2013) Pickard Architects is a California based architecture and engineering firm. The firm has completed more than 1,200 projects over the last 33 years. In addition to traditional architecture and engineering services, Pickard provides construction management, project management, and entitlement services. Providing award-winning architectural and engineering services for public and private clients, the firm has developed an extensive design portfolio in both the public and private sectors. The Firm's work includes both new and remodel projects, and free standing and interiors/tenant improvement work. Pickard's resume of projects is quite diverse, as the Firm has never focused solely on any single project or client type. Rather, Pickard has developed a very broad and diverse project and client resume. "Up-front" conceptual engineering of systems and architecture, along with order of magnitude cost estimates provides opportunity for early evaluation of alternative systems and design approaches. Mr. Pickard is a graduate of the University of Southern California School of Architecture, where he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in 1981 and a Bachelor of Architecture degree in 1982. As Principal Architect and a founding principal of Pickard Architects, Mr. Pickard is responsible for the day to day operations of Pickard Architects, and for guiding its overall vision from both design and business operations perspectives. He has been actively involved with Pickard in that role for more than 30 years. His experience in professional architecture, engineering, and planning has involved a wide variety of private and public projects, including neighborhood retail, restaurants, grocery and drug stores, professional offices, medical and dental, child care, theme parks, public utilities, adaptive re-use and mixed-use residential, commercial, and professional buildings. In addition to being a licensed architect, he is also an attorney registered as an active member or the State Bar of California.
