Contact information When David and Victoria Giorgione moved to the Tampa Bay area from New York State, it was supposed to be a short-term gig. “We came down here, figured we’d stay for a year, maybe two years, and head back. Now here we are twelve years later,” David says with a sweeping gesture to the home in which he sits. The Giorgiones want a Mediterranean-style home and they had very specific ideas of what they wanted. They had started working with another builder, but the plans just didn’t seem to fit what they were looking for. That is when they found architect Him Ludwig and Campagna Homes. “We met up with Jim, started working with him, and he took us as a client to Campagna,” David Says. “jim is a great architect. He had a vision. He was into a true Tuscan design on this project.” Black and orange marble tiles laid in a checkerboard pattern set and elegant tone for the outside patio. A dramatic wall of layered stone provides a backdrop for the gas grill and outdoor kitchen while another sone wall has a fireplace to keep outdoor diners warm on chilly winter evenings. “We entrain a lot and we love it out here,” Victoria says. This 7,200 square-foot home provides plenty of room for this busy family to spread out comfortably. The grand foyer, with its soaring 30-foot ceiling, sets the tone. A private office and formal dining room flank either side of the double front doors and a small wine cellar is tucked beneath the curving staircase, which arcs up to the second floor. Directly ahead, the small formal living room space houses a grand piano and features tall windows overlooking the handsome pool, outdoor patios and golf course beyond. Cascades of rich silk draperies highlight the view. Upstairs is the kids’ realm. Directly at the top of the stairs is a large playroom complete with dollhouses, games and beanbag chairs for playing video games. Down the hall are three children’s bedrooms, each with its own bathroom. Bright blue walls and dark wood cabinets differentiate the son’s room from his sisters’ more feminine abodes decorate in pastel colors. A wide hallway between the rooms provides built-in computer workspaces and storage cabinets for study time. Sheri had a very strong idea of what she wanted for furnishings so she chose the furnishing and fixtures herself and did most of the decorating in the home. Karen Campagna, whose design company Karen Campagna Interiors does the design work for Campagna Homes, worked with daughter Laura to choose the paint colors and design of the elegant draperies throughout the home. A busy home like this is not complete without a big outside play are for both adults and kids alike. Airy covered patios provide plenty of seating and the full outdoor kitchen with an adjacent fire pit makes outdoor entertaining a breeze. The freeform pool includes fiber optic lighting, a sunning platform and built-in water level table. The focal point though is the man-made cave housing the Jacuzzi with a dive platform and slide coming off the top of the structure. Would we build again with Campagna Homes? When my wife and I decided to build a custom home, we chose Campagna based on the quality and imagination of their models and the family members we had met. As a result we were warned repeatedly to expect the relationship with our builder to degrade as the project proceeded. In fact, working with the Campagna family proved to be a very positive experience. They were consistent in their attention to detail and responsiveness to our needs. We were also pleased by their encouraging us to work directly with the various sub-trades rather than through an intermediary.
