Camp Angels, Inc., established in Fernandina Beach, FL, is a non-profit organization founded by Don and Diane Rung in response to the financial challenges faced by families of children with Type 1 diabetes. After observing the beneficial impact of specialized diabetic camps on their son, the Rungs initiated Camp Angels in 2002 as a 501(c)(3) entity aimed at supporting financially challenged families unable to afford such inclusive camping experiences. With its mission to enable these children to live well amidst medical challenges through enjoyable camp experiences, Camp Angels provides scholarships funded by donations from individuals, corporations, and foundations. Since its inception, the organization has facilitated hundreds of summer camp opportunities for diabetic children, teaching them critical self-management skills in diabetes care while ensuring they partake in age-appropriate recreational activities. Beyond fostering essential life skills and peer support networks, Camp Angels plays a vital role in helping children understand that they are not alone in managing their condition.
