Having been involved in the construction industry for many years, Gary Bartlett knew a great deal about almost every aspect of building a home and in 1997 decided to move to SGI to build his own family vacation home.  However, not too much longer after the construction began, he started to question that decision.  Standing on the just finished 1st floor decking of his soon-to-be two story home, he wondered what in the world had he had gotten himself into – one man building a house on his own – he must be crazy!  As daunting a task as he’d had taken on, with a strong will and determination, along with the support of his family and many new-found island friends, his dream home was finally completed.  Because of the experience of building a home from the ground up and coming to love the island life, he decided to get his contractor’s license and start up a business of his own.  In May of 2002, his wife Teresa retired from her job of over 23 years in Tallahassee and she and their son Ryan moved down to join him.  They are still here and aren’t going anywhere.
