Welcome to BrownSchooling. I am Traci Baxley, creator of BrownSchooling, educator and mom of five. BrownSchooling was created after embarking on my journey into homeschooling. After sending my children to public school throughout elementary school, I’ve become a bit disheartened. I’ve found that traditional schooling doesn’t work for all children. As the mother of five children (ages 8-17) and an educator for over 25 years I honestly still believe in the idea of public school (my older two are in public high schools), it has just gone in directions that impacts some children in ways that are detrimental. that are not discussed in a traditional classroom setting. Letting my children’s interests and passions be the guiding force for learning and allowing them to question the world around them is the key to our homeschooling. I am a firm believer that standards and benchmarks can be met with any content, why not choose content that’s engaging, relevant and meaningful! BrownSchooling Box was developed after sharing culturally relevant curriculum with my friends and family. When I was asked “how to” and “can you share this” questions, I realized that other families, not just homeschooling ones, were looking for ways to expose their children to Black history and other social justice issues. They were also looking for family-friendly ways to engage with their children. Out of this, the BrownSchooling Box was born. Welcome!
