The most powerful source of beauty is the brain. The Bold Beauty Project shows women and viewers alike that all women possess beauty. We live in a time saturated with superficial beauty, but that only triggers superficial attraction. Real beauty emerges when the brain is beautiful, and every woman possesses the ability to unleash a beautiful mind. When your mind is beautiful, you are beautiful. Being beautiful is about the journey not the destination. The BBP will allow 20 special women to travel to places they have never been and to emerge feeling more beautiful than ever. Audience members are challenged to see beauty in all our participants. The BBP is about women owning their own beauty. As women learn to see themselves as more beautiful, others can't help but follow...... I admire the women for their courage, intelligence, confidence and willingness to keep going and embrace life. I witnessed their inner beauty, coquetry, sexiness and passion to support each other. I’m so honored to be involved in this project by doing these ladies make-up and hair. It gives me that special moment to get close and personal, to see that inner beauty is not raw at all. I’m honored to be collaborating with this mission. It’s as touching as it is fulfilling. Being a part of the Raw Beauty project in 2006 was a life changing experience for me. After working with such talented, beautiful and remarkable women I truly realized the power photography can possess in shaping how we are seen by the world. How we are seen as women, as artists and as individuals. This power has been a driving force for me ever since and I am so grateful to have been included. Having the huge billboard size photograph of me displayed in the gallery and watching the audiences reaction to my photo was life altering and affirming. At first, I didn’t recognize myself. But then something shifted and I did. On the day of the photo shoot, I realized my photographer wasn’t looking at me as sexual object or something to be pitied, he was looking at me as a piece of art. I was the vehicle for his inspiration. I am stared at anyway, so why not have people stare at a beautiful photograph. The experience of posing semi-nude was transformational; the whole experience helped me to stand in a new place of knowing my beauty and self-acceptance. Being a model in Raw Beauty was a powerful experience, the whole preparation with the make- up artist and the photographer was amazing. It made me feel special and I enjoyed every minute of it. The unknown came in so naturally to me that for a moment I thought I was made for it...I did not really understand the concept of the project but it did not make a difference for me, I was there for something that was going to help disabled woman and it was enough! I think this opportunity for disabled women to photographed and be a model for a day should be expanded globally. Carolina del Rivero, my photographer was a very cool person to work with.
