I shaped the first 20 or 30 boards in the basement and glassed and sanded them in the garage. After my mom's car stayed in the driveway for over a year, she decided I had to move the business out of the house. We built out a full shop in a warehouse in Holly Hill and I worked part-time until I graduated high school in 2016. After graduation, I took a part-time job in a local surf shop to learn more about the surf market and earn some cash to help Board Theory grow. In the first year in the new shop, I built around 200 boards and glassed another dozen boards under my glassing shop banner - Red Nose Glassing. I don't build boards that are like everyone else's - I tend toward experimentation based on traditional shapes and artistic resin tint finishes. Surfboards don't have to be boring. As of March, 2018, I have built over 400 boards and glassed dozens for other local shapers. I've been selling boards at Fluid shows and the recent Boards & Waves Expo. I have boards in five shops from Melbourne to St. Augustine and I've been lucky enough to get a little media attention. Everyday is a learning experience, whether it's creating a new model, learning something to make my glassing better or learning about marketing from my parents. Life is rad!
