BLUE DOLFINS LLC, OVIEDO

Blue Dolfins is a USA Swimming team located in beautiful Central Florida. Started in 1972 by Harry Meisel, the Blue Dolfins have a long tradition of producing top swimmers at the age-group and college level. Our facilities include a 50 meter pool at the Oviedo Aquatic Complex on Oviedo Blvd. and a 25 yard pool at the Winter Park Racquet Club and Winter Park High. The Dolfins have been in Oviedo since 1993 and Winter Park since 1972. Our mission is to provide our swimmers with the best opportunity possible to reach their full potential while creating great memories, making friends, and learning life lessons along the way. Welcome to the home of Central Florida's Blue Dolfins. Est 1972 He then went on and was the Grad Assistant Coach for FSU from 1991-1992. In 1994 he was the Assistant Coach of the USS Blue Doflins of Orlando and in 1995 became the Head Branch Coach for the Oviedo pool. From 1995-1996, Charlie was the Co-Head Coach for Oviedo High Swimming and is now the Head Coach for the swimming and water polo teams. He is the head coach for Blue Dolfins at the Oviedo branch. The generosity of the Alfond family and others allowed Rollins College to build a pool in 1972.  Kevin’s father was named aquatics director and founded the Blue Dolfins swim team with a dozen swimmers.  A year round program was born that cold day in October and continues today under the direction of former Blue Dolfins great, Coach Charlie Rose.  A team championship at the 1974 Jr. Olympic Short Course Championship was just a hint of the Dolfins’ potential.  A great help to Kevin’s swimming career and the Dolfins senior program was the hiring of Coach Skip Foster.  More growth and success was realized when Winter Park High School built a pool in 1976.  Kevin’s father took kids from their first strokes to age 12 and then they moved over to Coach Foster through high school and college.  This system worked to produce many team and individual honors that are still being garnered today after 36 years. Kevin joined that system as a coach in 1980 after two years at East Carolina University.  His swimming career was ended by a train accident that nearly severed his right arm.  Although his scholarship was honored by Coach Ray Scharf, Kevin came home to help his father in 1980 and earned a BA degree in business administration from Rollins College in 1982.  Kevin was able to move forward with his coaching career with the support of family, friends and young swimmers who allowed him time to heal in all ways.  Memories of what might have been pale in comparison to the enjoyment of coaching and living daily. After high school, Jen went to Valencia Community College. She still trained in swimming and as a matter of fact with Blue Dolfins. Her coach was Paige Brunault, who broke off from Blue Dolfins and got her own team, Streamline Aquatics. Jen was generally the oldest swimmer on the team and seemed to naturally take the younger swimmers under her wing, and even won the Leadership Award. Coach Paige asked Jen to help out a few times and the coaching bug bit her. Swimming was great, but to Jen, coaching was even better.  Starting out at the age of 17 with a group all her own, she ended up taking a few of her swimmers to Flags (it was JO’s back then) at the age of 19.  Eventually, she started coaching as an assistant coach with a summer recreation league as well as doing private lessons. From there her coaching took off as she became the head coach for Boca Raton High School from 2003-2005. She had great success, receiving Coach of the Year her first year there, with State teams for the boys and girls both years and even had a 3 A few years later, Jen went a little further down south to the Palm Beach area and coached for Gordan Andrews with Lake Lytal Lightning. In 2010 she was getting ready to become the Aquatic Director for the Boynton Beach YMCA, but some family health issues brought her back to Orlando. Once she got settled back in Orlando she knew she had to start coaching again and has been coaching with Blue Dolfins since October of 2011. That same year she met Quentin Dixon and they married in April of 2014. They have a beautiful daughter, Kailani, born in March of 2013.  Hello parents and swimmers of Blue Dolfins Swim team! I am thrilled to have the honor of coaching your children and cant wait for an exciting summer. I have not had the opportunity to introduce myself to many of you so I wanted to take some time to tell you a little about myself. I am originally from Clearwater, Florida, youngest of 6 siblings who were all swimmers. You could tell by the constant smell of chlorine that inhabited all our cars and countless swim suits that hung on the doorknobs. I enjoyed the sport all the way through high school where I helped lead many of my teammates, individual and relays, on to Regionals, a feat my high school had not seen in many years before. My coaching career began at the age of 16, where I taught swim lessons through the city as well as worked as a lifeguard. Every summer since then I have coached age group swimmers on a competitive team all thanks to my older brother Craig, who has continued to help me to this day. It taught my a lot about myself as a swimmer and also lead me to my future career, even though I didn't realize it at the time. I am currently a senior at the University of Central Florida where I will graduate with a bachelors in Early Childhood Development and Education. I have learned so much in the past 6 years of coaching and look forward to learning more. In the short time I've been a part of the team everyone has made me feel so welcomed even as we all said good bye to the wonderful Coach Sue and it means so much. Feel free to stop by the pool and say hello anytime! Look forward to seeing everyone!
