The Birkes Consulting Group LLC began as a private consulting practice in 1988 when Larry Birkes was asked to help the Michaud Transportation Company in Salem, MA develop it's business plan, leadership capabilities and organizational effectiveness. At that time Larry was the Director of Human Resources for the Boston Copley Marriott Hotel and a Commander in the Naval Reserve assigned as the Director of Training for a simulation unit at the Naval War College; his wife Diane was the Director of Human Resources at the Cambridge Marriott Hotel. While Diane consulted on the Human Resource Practices, Processes and Applications, Larry focused on the Organization's Leadership, Organizational Effectiveness and the Strategic Business Plan.
