Who is Behind Biota Aquariums? Conceived from a passion to share the ocean’s great beauty, born from the relentless pursuit to conserve its integrity, Biota Aquariums strives to provide fully sustainable aquatic environments that inspire awe to a new generation of marine enthusiasts. Biota Aquariums is a brand rooted in marine biology through its founders Kevin Gaines and Tom Bowling. Tom is passionate about developing sustainable aquaculture to restock and support the marine environment. He has had particular success with fish that are notoriously difficult to breed in captivity including thread-fin snappers, bumphead parrotfish and clown triggers. Most of the fish being bred for Biota Aquariums are from our Palau nursery. Why did Tom and Kevin develop Biota Aquariums? Our own Biota Palau Marine Life Nursery in the Pacific, the brainchild of Biota co-founder Tom Bowling, supplies one of the fish species and the corals for the Biota tanks. The remaining livestock come from an aquaculture farm in Florida. Easy to follow instructions guide customers through set up to help them create a successful, beautiful aquarium that will be the centerpiece of their home, office or school. We provide you with hardy, aquacultured fish that we acclimate at our Marine Life Center in Florida. Healthy fish mean better outcomes and fewer unnecessary deaths. For every fish you buy Biota Aquariums will release a fish into the ocean at the Biota Marine Life Nursery in Palau.Our Marine Life Nursery is also undertaking valuable research and pioneering the sustainable aquaculture of fish species that have been hard to breed in captivity.Biota Aquariums will donate a portion of its income via 1% For The Planet to ocean conservation. We’re proud to be part of a movement that believes business is responsible for positive change and that we should leave the planet better than we found it.We’re also members of the Pet Sustainability Coalition. The Coalition is about improving environmental and social sustainability in the pet industry through education, collaboration, and implementation tools. Biota Marine Life Center in Florida is a temperature controlled bio-secure facility. All of the fish and corals are conditioned in closed recirculating systems using natural seawater. Large centralized systems using protein skimmers, chemical, mechanical and UV filtration provide optimal water quality.
