BergerABAM is a consulting firm offering services in the areas of planning, civil and structural engineering, environmental services, public involvement, construction management and support, and underwater inspection services. Founded in 1951, the firm gained worldwide recognition for pioneering work in prestressed concrete design. While maintaining and cultivating this expertise, the firm's capabilities have grown to cover a wide spectrum of management, planning, and engineering services. In 1988, the firm formed an affiliation with the Berger Group Holdings, Inc. (BGH) affiliated companies, one of the largest consulting groups in the world. As a member of BGH, BergerABAM became a part of a global team of resources located throughout the United States and 50 foreign countries. BergerABAM takes pride in designing an approach that is innovative, client-oriented, and economical. Primary corporate contacts at BergerABAM include the following. BergerABAM embraces its social responsibility with established policies and practices that contribute to positive impacts to society and that protect the environment. BergerABAM is committed to providing sustainable planning and design practices. Concern for the environment and implementing sustainable strategies are integral to the firm’s professional activities. Careful attention is given to the natural environment, as well as operating conditions for which a project is built that helps clients meet sustainability goals. BergerABAM understands effective techniques to achieve low impact development through whole building and systems design, life-cycle cost analysis, climate impact assessment, waste reduction design, and the use of recycled and recovered materials. With the ever present responsibility to develop projects that save resources and reduce the impact on the environment, BergerABAM can guide clients through important building and infrastructure rating systems programs; for example, the U.S. Building Council Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) green building certification and the Envision rating system for infrastructure projects. As one of the first to become involved in these programs, BergerABAM has LEED-accredited, Envision, and Greenroads professionals trained and capable of providing sound direction and technical support with these programs. In addition to BergerABAM being an Envision-qualified company, the firm has ISI-approved Envision trainers and third-party verifiers. Sustainable Business Practices The purpose of BergerABAM is to fulfill the needs of clients, employees, and shareholders with integrity, quality services, innovation, and leadership. An important part of fulfilling this purpose is by reducing the environmental impact of business practices. Some examples of practices implemented by BergerABAM to help achieve this goal include involvement in commuter trip reduction. BergerABAM encourages the use of transit, carpools, and vanpools to minimize single-occupancy vehicle use. The firm maintains an active commuter trip reduction program that began in 2001, and received the Pacesetter Award for its efforts. This program pays for transit passes and includes incentives for employees using alternative transportation modes. To reduce the need for travel between offices, BergerABAM uses an interactive communication method. All offices have SMART Board interactive whiteboards and videoconferencing systems. BergerABAM has reduced vehicle use and miles traveled substantially by conducting electronic meetings, workshops, and presentations using this method. BergerABAM also employs water reduction and recycling methods to reduce the overall impacts on the environment. For example, paper reduction and the use of efficient and effective methods to exchange key documentation electronically with clients, where appropriate, to use less paper. Additionally, all offices practice standard recycling methods to separate and collect recyclable materials. Guided by our core values, BergerABAM strives to be the service provider of choice, the employer of choice, and the investment of choice. We are dedicated to quality and continuous improvement. We are active participants in our communities leaving a positive economic, intellectual, and social impact. We are committed to public life safety in our projects and to the safety of our employees. Mission BergerABAM is committed to high-quality, cost-effective, and innovative solutions that protect public life safety, foster environmental stewardship, and promote sustainable development practices.
