Gordon is the owner of Beardsley Enterprises, an HR consulting company. He is skilled at working with leaders and employees to uncover client business process and people barriers to effective business performance. He enjoys getting to know a business and its employees from the bottom up. Currently Gordon is working with small to medium sized businesses. He is also teaching courses on Principles of Management and Global Organizational Behavior at the University of Tampa in the Sykes School of Business. Using a facilitated approach he weaves live case study activity, self awareness learning and business theory into engaging and fast moving programs for his audience. To date, he has held leadership, individual contributor and consulting positions in small, medium and large businesses on both coasts. For much of his business career he held concurrent college teaching assignments in classroom and online learning settings. Gordon has delivered courses in Public Speaking, Speech Communications, Business Writing Skills, and a course on Succeeding in College. Gordon has an MS in Counseling & Human Resources Development and extensive coursework in business topics. He has taken PHD level courses in International Business and Cognitive Psychology, professional programs and certifications. He has been certified in the use of the Myers Briggs instrument and Lomingers Career Architect approach and continues to be an active member of both the American Society of Training and Development (ASTD) and Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM) professional organizations, making full use of their resources including webinars on professional skills and new developments in the HR and Training fields. One of the things I most enjoy as an adult is learning something new, a skill of some sort, and then being able to productively use that new skill to create something… a product, a service. Maybe its my manufacturing experience at a number of companies: Pitney Bowes, Bozak, Vita Crunch, to name a few. Maybe its just the satisfaction of creating something out of nothing. A thirst, a desire, to forge something from many diverse parts, pieces or thoughts. Or a burning question that needs a viable answer. I firmly believe that thirst to create something is at the heart of building a business… a new business… and to quench that thirst can be very satisfying. Two days ago I began my journey with WordPress to put my business online. The thought of online began for me months ago, as I started gathering and printing out a number of other websites/ blogs that caught my eye. I needed to kind of get a frame for my thoughts. I’ve been collecting web page examples for some time, but it it just wasn’t clicking until I accidentally stumbled across, in a stack of papers, a printout I had made of Michael D. Watkins website. His directness caught my eye again. So Michael thanks for your inspiration! An aside on my filing system is necessary here… so please indulge me for a moment. Having been inspired to take that first step, I just jumped in 2 days ago and began writing my content and dropping it under the appropriate headings: speeches and meetings, about gordon, etc., you get the picture. I could have read the WP article “Zero to Hero”, I’m sure it would have shortened my learning curve. But it was too much fun just stumbling along and trying things out. Sure, it took a little more time, but honestly, it was fun figuring it all out. And I’m happy with the outcome so far. My journey’s not over as more changes will come to the site… its an evolutionary process, right? Just ask my best friend. I’m sure she’ll agree with my approach, as long as I stay online and don’t add to the stacks of artfully arranged paper around my side of the office.
