At the April 12, 2010 meeting the Alantic Beach Florida City Commission approved the Veterans Park Master Plan, updated by architect Tat Chan, and a name change to “Beaches Veterans Memorial Park”. Representatives of American Legion Post 129, 233, and 316; The VFW Post 3270 and the Fleet Reserve Unit 290; and the Mayport Chapter of Military Officers Association of America (MOAA), representing over 4000 organized Beaches Veterans, gave the Commission their pledge to support the park both financially and with “sweat” equity.
At their June 12, 2010 meeting at VFW Post 3270 Planning Committee members voted to begin the process of incorporation as a nonprofit organization, with a Board of Directors, consisting of members of each of the Beaches Veterans organizations. They were selected and approved, and the papers for the nonprofit corporation were filed, and have since been approved by the State. Mayor Borno, along with City Manager Jim Hanson, will be AB liaisons. An application for a 501c3 IRS designation is now being completed, thus making all donations to the park a tax deductible contribution.
