Our Philosophy is Learning by Doing: Meaningful experiences are the most effective foundation for reading. By giving your little one pleasant experience by doing, we provide a strong base for future reading. Each child will be read to daily, in each of the mornings and afternoons. This is often made even more exciting with the use of flannel board stories, finger plays or big books. We feel the individual needs of each and every child is prime responsibility. In order for us to accomplish this goal, each child will be placed in accordance with their development needs, instead of strict adherence on their age. When making this important decision, we take into account every single aspect of this very child’s development– not simply academically, but socially and physically also. Classrooms are identified by animals names, rather than just age brackets. Your child is encouraged to take part in activities inside their own comfort level. We also make a point to celebrate their individual accomplishments in class! Learning by doing is our philosophy! We try to give every student the choice to get engaged with the learning process, and then encourage them to learn by themselves. We provide experiences in library, music, cooking, gardening, dramatics, art, science, Spanish, sign language and field trips (VPK and after-school programs). Every detail, from our literature-based curriculum to the layout of our three playgrounds, is designed to aid in number and reading readiness as well as help with the development of fine and gross motor skills, not to mention fun! At Bayside Discovery Center, we believe your child is more than just an age group. We will make every effort to position each child in the best developmentally appropriate classroom environment. We highly value our relationship with every parent, guardian, grandparent, uncle or aunt who plays an important role in our own students’ lives.
