Bariatric Surgery Source Advisory Council Dr. Shayani is one of the experts on Lap-Band surgery in the country. He started performing gastric banding soon after its FDA approval in 2001, making him one of the first surgeons in the United States to perform this procedure. His extensive experience and successful outcomes have led to his status as a Proctor for the device manufacturer, wherein he trains and qualifies other surgeons in LAP BAND surgery. As a pioneer in the field of Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Shayani was the only surgeon from the state of Illinois who, as a principal investigator, participated in the clinical trials for both the Orbera Gastric Balloon and the air-filled Obalon gastric balloon, making him the first surgeon to implant either of those balloons in Illinois. In addition, he is the first surgeon to have implanted the Aspire Assist device in Illinois. As laparoscopic technology improved, a new “gold standard” procedure for management of morbid obesity was developed: the Laparoscopic Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass (RGB). After receiving comprehensive technical training, Dr. Rovito performed the first laparoscopic RGB in the area and continues to provide this life-altering procedure to a diverse patient population. A registered dietitian with more than 20 years experience, Nancy DeLuca has provided medical nutrition therapy to individuals ranging in age from three years to over 90. She is certified in adult, adolescent and childhood weight management by The American Dietetic Association and was a certified diabetes educator for 10 years. Bariatric Surgery Source Organizational Leaders He has been recognized as a national new business leader for Great-West Healthcare, now part of CIGNA, a global health services company, and he served as the Northern California Business Development Director for Precept, a national employee benefits consulting organization. His in-depth health and financial analysis of bariatric surgery for large and mid-sized self-funded employer-provided health and wellness plans convinced him that weight loss surgery is the most effective option for qualifying candidates – both in terms of long-term health improvement for obese individuals and long-term financial savings for both individuals and employers. Coupled with his passion for research and information dissemination, these conclusions led him to establish Bariatric Surgery Source, a comprehensive and ongoing analysis of this exciting, life changing field. Scott began his career as a corporate finance attorney at a large, multinational law firm. While he carries with him the work ethic and attention to detail practicing law instilled, he’s grateful to be on the business-side pursuing his true passion: developing and implementing plans and partnerships that sustainably grow revenue. Scott considers his most important duty at Bariatric Surgery Source to be that of ensuring our partners and clients consistently receive the highest possible ROI for their marketing dollars. Most recently, Scott was a Managing Director at LOYAL3 – a financial technology company with a strong loyalty marketing bend. During his time there, he was an integral part of the team that launched marketing solutions for clients such as Kraft Foods, Virgin America, AMC Theatres and GoPro. After receiving his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science and History from the University of Colorado Boulder, Mr. Anderson leveraged an Internship in Governor Hickenlooper’s Office into a contract helping to organizing a technologically intensive community engagement project called TBD Colorado for the Governor’s Office. After completing his work for TBD, Mr. Anderson worked for the Executive Director’s Office for the Colorado Department of Healthcare and Financing where he acquired in-depth knowledge of the U.S. healthcare system and how to leverage the connecting power of technology. Mr. Anderson joined Bariatric Surgery Source in early 2015 to leverage his healthcare, project management and computer science background towards optimizing all aspects of company operations and technology. Ms. Donovan joined Bariatric Surgery Source (BSS) in 2009 with a focus on content research and development where she played a critical role in the early and substantial traffic growth of Bariatric Surgery Source. She has since shifted her focus to site-wide user experience (“UX”) and the ongoing refinement of BSS’s content development and delivery strategy. Her creative, innovative and forward thinking approach continues to grow BSS’s online authority by making BSS a valuable, go-to resource for thousands of new patients each year. Nadia joined the Bariatric Surgery Source (BSS) team in 2014 to help take our patient education efforts to the next level, including educational videos & webinars, patient testing & certification, and one-on-one patient coaching. Nadia’s expertise is helping BSS transition from passive patient education to active patient involvement in improving long-term outcomes. For over 15 years, Mr. Hilton has created online and offline design solutions for both large and small brands. As Creative Coordinator for Bariatric Surgery Source (BSS), he designs interactive websites and applications for BSS and its partners in the health care field. It is his commitment to provide meaningful, strategic website and application designs that engage the user, facilitate conversion data collection, and set the brand apart as unique and memorable among its competitors. Throughout his design career, Mr. Hilton has played a key role in art direction and design for clients such as Seattle Weekly, Tableau Software, Tully’s Coffee and MultiCare Health Systems. He’s also had the privilege of leading a handful of projects for Microsoft, Port of Seattle and Harlow’s Earth as well as many other small to medium sized businesses and independent brands. After receiving his degree in Computer Science, Mr. Khokhaneshiya joined Avinashi System Pvt. Ltd. (ASPT) where he played a key role in growing the company from 3 to 50 employees in less than 3 years. He served as flash & php developer and was the primary technical mentor for fellow developers. He left ASPT to co-found Artoon Solutions Pvt. Ltd. where he has focused on website and interactive tool development, including PC, tablet and mobile applications.
