Prior to founding Applied Conservation, Greg served in varied positions at The Nature Conservancy from 1974 until his retirement from the Conservancy in 2010 — including leadership positions as Executive Vice President and as Managing Partner for U.S. Conservation. He spearheaded the development of state-based programs and landscape-level conservation projects, including over ten years developing and managing the Conservancy’s first landscape-level project on the Virginia Eastern Shore. Since leaving the Conservancy he has organized and been the principal consultant for Applied Conservation LLC, facilitating conservation planning for varied clients. Since 2007 Greg helped develop, test, apply, and expand the use of a methodology for enhanced CAP, now called landscape conservation forecasting. These tools include satellite imagery, ecological models, quantitative metrics, computer simulations, and cost-benefit analysis to determine which conservation strategies will most efficiently conserve and restore ecosystems in landscapes ranging from 50,000 acres to over 1,000,000 acres. Greg is proficient in using the Vegetation Dynamics Development Tool and ST-Sim for computer simulations of alternative landscape management scenarios. He has facilitated numerous ecological modeling and conservation planning workshops with federal land management agencies, private landowners, and other stakeholders. He is lead author of Henry Little worked in the conservation field for 38 years, with The Nature Conservancy and The Conservation Fund. Initially working in San Francisco as Western Field Representative and then as Western Regional Director between 1972 and 1981, he oversaw all of the Conservancy’s activities in 13 Western states, including the development of state programs and the acquisition of large properties. From 1981 until 1984, Henry lived in Honolulu where he established the Conservancy’s Hawaii State Program. In 1983 Henry was awarded the Gulf Oil Company Conservation Award for his work in Hawaii. Henry’s latest move, in 1997, led him back to San Francisco and to the Conservancy, as Director of Conservation Programs for California, a position he held until 2001. For the following decade, until his retirement at yearend 2010 from the Conservancy, Henry directed a number of large, landscape-scale conservation projects, including the establishment of the CA-NV Joint Venture, the Northern Sierra Project, and the Klamath River Project. Henry currently is a partner and consultant with Applied Conservation, through which he provides both Currently Henry is the volunteer lead for the Project Healing Waters Fly Fishing’s San Francisco Program, which he launched in early 2017. PHWFF is a national organization which helps disabled veterans with their rehabilitation through engaging them in fly fishing-related activities such as fly casting, fly tying, rod building, and outings to rivers and lakes. Applied Conservation Applied Conservation was established in 2011 by retired Nature Conservancy veterans Greg Low and Henry Little. Applied Conservation provides consulting and facilitation services to public agencies, nonprofit conservation organizations, private landowners and other partners in conservation action planning, landscape conservation forecasting, conservation strategy implementation, environmental dashboards, and organizational development.
