This is a personal welcome written by our founder, mentor and father, Herman Shooster. While Herman passed away in 2014, his wise words and legacy live on in all of us at Answering Service Care. Imagine how grateful I am to be able to work in the same business with all my children – as well as my son- and daughters-in-law – even some of the grandkids. In the late 1980s, we discovered that our technology and expertise could be applied to a wide range of teleservices and we soon expanded into a call center and fulfillment company – without ever losing our core business as the answering service that cares deeply about you and your customers. Our technology is second-to-none, but it would be worthless were it not for the training, commitment and enthusiasm of our employees. Today, our company employs hundreds of people in a warm, extended-family atmosphere. Many have been with us since the inception of our company. Because that’s what family does. Herman, who passed away in 2014, inspired everyone around him with his wealth of experience, both in business and in life. Today Herman and wife Dorothy’s four children, Frank, Michael, Stephen and Wendy, serve as co-CEOs of the company. Some people find it amazing that four siblings could work together without a “boss” – and yet it works. In fact, our spouses work here too: Max, Alizabeth and Diane make major contributions towards our continuing business success. The third generation of Shoosters is now making its mark on the family business, and we look forward to what the next 40 or 50 years hold for all of us! The business, owned by brothers Frank and Joe Brooks, had a nice local reputation for good customer service and attention with a smile. While the Shoosters knew that their hard work, attention to detail and commitment to be the best would grow the company, they never imagined what the future held. Growing, growing, growing. That first year, Herman Shooster didn’t draw a paycheck, and, together with his wife Dorothy, put all that he could back into the business. Over the years, the Shoosters connected with others in the answering service business, and continued to acquire many of these small businesses, most of which were also local family-owned entities. Staying close to its roots. That small “mom-and-pop” has grown into Answering Service Care, one of the premier providers of professional answering services (and, with its sister company Global Response, call center services) in the industry. And what’s more, the ever-growing and expanding business – which began operations in a small storefront location and now has additional locations in Michigan and Washington – has remained family-owned and operated. Today, all four of the Shoosters’ kids and several of their spouses, as well as now the third generation, including several of the Shoosters’ 14 grandchildren, manage a full-service operation that serves a global clientele and continues to flourish into the future. It’s all about the people.
