Lieutenant Carter received his commission as a Navy Chaplain in June 2006. After graduating from the Chaplains Basic Course in March 2009, he received an invitation to return to the school house in 2009 for On the Job Training (OJT) as Assistant to the Basic Course Instructor. During his first active duty tour, he was assigned to the USS Tortuga (LSD 46) as Command Chaplain for the Sasebo, Japan based warship. He detached from Tortuga and reported to the United States Naval Academy as a Battalion Chaplain. Additionally, the served as the chaplain for all Naval Academy’s varsity athletics and coaches. During his time at the United States Naval Academy, he received the Frank M. Adams Leadership Award given to the top junior officer in the command. He is currently the Battalion Chaplain for 3rd Marine Raider Battalion in Camp Lejeune, North Carolina.
