The metal electrical contacts and water, especially salt water, have two adversaries: Corrosion ‐ salt water is an electrolyte that provides a path for metal ions to migrate from one electrical contact to the other. The other adversary is oxidization (copper oxide for copper – the green stuff). Both combine to degrade and destroy metal electrical contacts.
