My time spent at the learning centers taught me a great deal, but I was discouraged by the overwhelmingly high prices and confines of some of the programs. It occurred to me that by creating my own company I could provide the same service at less than half the cost, while also having the freedom to alter instruction as I saw fit to help any given student, without waiting for the approvals and meetings necessary in a larger company. This is how Alternative Instruction was born. It is a company dedicated to providing each student with instruction specifically designed for that individual, and with an ability to rapidly and flexibly change that instruction as needed. Alternative Instruction is a company that provides affordable one-to-one instruction in each client’s home. Founded by Jean Calkins, an educator and former instructional consultant, we are dedicated to helping students of all ages and needs achieve their academic goals by providing instruction tailored to their learning styles and particular skills. We are the alternative to classroom settings and “one-size-fits-all” instructional models for those seeking individualized lessons designed specifically for each student. Homework Help Homework Help – This is basic tutoring, in which the student brings their homework each session and we help as needed, pausing to provide additional support when confusion arises. We help build the foundational skills for reading and reading comprehension for students who struggle in this area by boosting phonics, word attack, sight words, and fluency. For families pleased with our services, word of mouth is the best way to help us reach out to more students. For any family currently receiving instruction, a referral bonus is offered. If a parent or student tells a friend about us, and that friend purchases a week or more of instruction, the referring family receives 2 free hours of instruction. This applies to every subsequent referral as well, so help us connect with more families! At Alternative Instruction, we are delighted to be able to reach so many students and help them and their parents fulfill their academic goals, but not every family can afford to pay for instruction. With this idea in mind, AI is always interested in visiting youth organizations, homeless shelters, or individual students who really need the extra help, but cannot afford to pay for it.
