ADVOCATE PROGRAM, INC., MIAMI

Mission BFC’s mission is to address the unmet needs of children of families with high- conflict and/or domestic violence. BFC is a service partnership funded by The Children’s Trust and designed and fiscally managed by the Advocate program. The partnership is a community-based interagency team responsible for implementing and overseeing home-based services and care coordination for children of domestic violence and high-conflict families in Miami-Dade County. The collaborative is comprised of 44 agencies, including members of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida, Miami Dade Public Schools, law enforcement, the State Attorney’s Office, the United Way, domestic violence shelters and other community providers. This system of care is parent-driven, child-centered and focuses on families’ strengths and needs in an easily accessible, culturally sensitive manner. BFC’s vision is to build the community’s awareness and capacity to identify children exposed to domestic violence and high-conflict, and provide access to coordinated, comprehensive services through a family-centered system of care to improve the well being of children and families. • Improving information sharing and facilitating partnerships with community providers and families; About The Advocate Program The Advocate Program, Inc. is a private, not-for-profit, 501 c (3) justice agency that offers probation, diversion, community service, DUI and traffic programs, domestic violence programs, substance abuse and mental health evaluations and treatment to court-ordered individuals. It has expanded to work with juveniles and families in the juvenile justice field, and to work with families impacted by family conflict and violence. The Advocate Program has been in business for over 40 years. It has collaborated with the community to develop Victim Response, Inc. (VRI) Miami-Dade county’s first privately-run domestic violence and sexual assault women’s shelter. As a result of an initiative funded by The Children’s Trust, the Advocate Program also established its Child and Family division, which oversees and manages the Bridging Families & Communities system of care. The division and program serve as the catalyst for the organization of interagency teams and private/public partnerships, and for coordinating a seamless system of care to better service children exposed to domestic violence. Bridging Families & Communities provides a home-based assessment of family needs, mental health consultation and care coordination. The program works with families to address system barriers and develop a family-centered plan for services. The Advocate Program’s strengths lie in its history, its staff’s qualifications and experience, its diversity and its willingness to be a true system partner. Staff leadership in state and national organizations has allowed the Advocate Program to become aware of new trends or aspects of both offender supervision and treatment. The Program’s history is filled with instances where system partners have asked it to create a new program or expand the level of current service. The Advocate Program has never failed to answer those calls. The program has relished its role as a true partner to both system partners and the community. Advocate Program regularly applies for funding and awards subcontracts based on funding availability. Administrative/ indirect costs cannot exceed ten percent (10%) of the applicant’s or subcontractors requested funding.
