A co-occurring disorder is a condition that occurs simultaneously with another condition, such as alcoholism with depression, or drug addiction with anxiety. A study in the Canadian Journal of Psychiatry suggests that the prevalence of co-occurring disorders is about 18.5 percent in addiction treatment facilities. For people with these conditions, the lessons need to come on two fronts. They need to know about the addiction, the mental health issue, and how the two interact. That’s an area in which Advanced Recovery Systems excels. As an evidence-based organization focused on co-occurring treatment, we can provide care that can transform even the toughest of cases. We help men, women and adolescents who are struggling with addictions, substance abuse and co-occurring disorders. We also provide treatment exclusively to International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) members at our Maryland facility, the IAFF Center of Excellence for Behavioral Health Treatment and Recovery. Some people come to our facilities from nearby neighborhoods, but it’s not uncommon for people to travel to another state for the health care services they need. Advanced Recovery Systems can assist people from both near and far. Our staff is adept at working through cultural and language barriers to provide people with real addiction help. HOW WE HELP We proudly offer therapeutic learning, cognitive-based healing and medication assistance. Our three-pronged approach has been well-documented and supported as a part of a robust addiction healing program. When you work with us, you’ll get therapy sessions that have been proven effective in scientific studies. You’ll use cognitive approaches to both understand and control your addiction triggers, and medications will help to soothe your discomfort, so you can get well without feeling ill. Each person that comes to the Advanced Recovery Systems’ network of facilities is provided with an individualized treatment program. Just as no two people are alike, no two programs are alike. Our treatment team assesses each person at the start of the program, determining what sort of help that person needs. Accommodating the varying needs of our clients, we offer different levels of care, beginning with detox and continuing on through aftercare. That’s where the Advanced Recovery Systems Alumni Group comes in. This group was made specifically for alumni like you as a strong foundation for your continued healing. It’s your space to reconnect with others from your treatment facility, ask questions and get answers, find support and encouragement, and get to know your point of contact for all things alumni.
