About Academy Bus Academy Bus, the largest privately owned and operated transportation company in the US, has been serving the East Coast for over 40 years.  Known industry-wide, for our customer service and well maintained,  new equipment we have set standards for ground transportation. Academy Bus was officially incorporated back in 1968 by our founder Frank Anthony Tedesco. But it was Frank's father Pasquale who purchased the company's first bus, #39, which operated a route along Broadway in Bayonne, New Jersey in the early 1930's. Through relentless devotion, boundless energy, and a desire to turn his dreams into a reality, Frank developed the company and transformed it into the Academy that the industry still recognizes for its excellence today. Lovingly referred to as Mr. T., Frank's own personal history is similarly impressive. His early career as a bus driver and mechanic for Boulevard Bus Company eventually lead him to pursue a Masters in Mathematics from Montclair State University as well as teaching at the Academy of Aeronautics in Queens, NY. He later was appointed Dean of the Evening School of the Academy. Between 1951 and 1953, Mr. T. also serviced as President of the Broadway Bus Owners Association. Today, Academy Bus and Academy Express are managed by Francis and Mark Tedesco, Frank and his loving wife's Josephine's sons. With more than 1,000 top of the line motor coaches, 15 locations scattered along the eastern seaboard, and over 1,500 employees, Academy is the largest privately owned motor coach operator in North America. But our roots go back more than 85 years when Frank's father, Pasquale, who purchased the company's first bus, #39, in the 1930s and operated one of the early commuter routes in Hudson County. From Pasquale's solitary bus route, Academy now has more than 1,500 employees and a fleet of more than 1,000 modern motor coaches. Our roots in Hoboken are just as deep and we value our role as a corporate neighbor to this emerging city in the shadows of Manhattan. Academy never joined in the corporate flight from the city to suburbia, standing fast to keep its national headquarters and jobs in Hoboken.
