When the decision was made to sell the facility following World War II, Ned Stone purchased the plant and land, calling his new company, A.E. Stone Contracting. The plant operations were expanded under Ned Stone over the next 12 years and this expansion enabled A.E. Stone Contracting to batch one ton of material. Ned Stone retired in 1955 and sold the business to Sidney Hewett and C. Clifford Allen. The new owners renamed the business A.E. Stone, Inc., the company name in use today. Hewett retired in 1985 and sold the business. In 1992, Thomas Ritter became the sole owner of the business. Today’s A.E. Stone, Inc. remains committed to the community. The company is a perennial sponsor of youth sports team and other civic organizations. A.E. Stone also provides support to employees who volunteer their time for community activities, donating equipment and materials required for their projects. When disaster strikes, A. E. Stone is there. In times of need, A. E. Stone regularly provides emergency infrastructure repair on damage caused by severe storms in the coastal areas. Most recently, A.E. Stone, Inc. played a role in the relief efforts after Hurricane Sandy. Several years ago, A. E. Stone assembled a group of business people to assist the Atlantic City Rescue Mission, a homeless shelter threatened by building foreclosure. Because A. E. Stone is so deeply committed to improving and supporting local community efforts, the company generously contributes to more than twenty charity organizations and community events annually. In addition, A. E. Stone urges all employees to get involved in similar activities. During peak months, A. E. Stone is one of Atlantic County’s largest employers with approximately 85 full-time workers during the peak paving months in the summer. A dedicated year-round staff, including a full-time quality control technician, is the key to the company’s success. Many employees, such as Equipment Manager, Michael Dear, Asphalt Plant Technologist, Keith Sterling and Senior Plant Mechanic, Steve Joseph have served the company for more than thirty years. Thomas K. Ritter, Owner/President of A.E. Stone, Inc., is an avid supporter of communities throughout Southern New Jersey. Mr. Ritter was raised in Moorestown, NJ and currently resides in Linwood, NJ. He was a member of the Mainland Regional High School Board of Education for 15 years and served as President for 4 years. He formed the Mainland Regional Education Foundation in an effort to raise scholarship money to help defray rising college education costs for graduating Mainland Regional High School students. He is currently on the Board of Directors of Cape Bank and on the Board of Trustees of the Shore Memorial Health Foundation. Mr.. Ritter previously served on the Board of Literacy Volunteers Association of the Cape Atlantic, Inc. and the Shoprite LPGA Tournament.
