John Slate, CEO of 84 Marine John was born and raised in Ft. Lauderdale and has been boating, surfing, and fishing since an early age. As with many natives, the sea is a part of life here in Florida and John cut his teeth on fixing up boats behind his home so he could spend his free time on the water. Beginning in the early 90’s, John got his start in the shipyard business at Roscioli Yachting Center, one of the largest shipyards in Ft. Lauderdale. Climbing his way through the ranks while learning the business, John developed a keen sense of organization which led him to become a buying agent in charge of all purchasing items for the repair facility and the construction of the Donzi custom sport fishing line. Moving from building, John became the HR Director then moved in to project management. In 1999, John became the Yard Manager working hand-in-hand building sport fishing yachts and repairing some of the largest motor yachts on the market today. During his 20 year tenure, John received his salesman’s license in 2001 and his broker’s license in 2003. Selling many of the vessel’s traded in on the Donzi line, John quickly became a sales force to be reckoned with in the sportfish market. Furthering his success, many of the motor yacht owner’s turned to John to manage their investments as he knew which yachts had been maintained properly and or neglected. John left the shipyard in 2011 to become the President of Zeelander Yachts where he implemented a strategic marketing plan, set up a service team, and worked directly with existing customers to brand the line and expand it from a 44’ to 55’ and 68’.
