Our Mission. We’d love to say that we’re on a mission to change the conversation around the whole big experience of womanhood, but we’ve realized that many of these conversations are not even happening yet. Some that are still occur behind closed doors, are discussed in primarily negative contexts, or make headlines when they are public. Seriously, 2015 was dubbed “the year of the period”, when in reality, the period has been around as long as mankind (think about it). Now think about all the other topics which are even more taboo, like stillbirth and miscarriage, postpartum struggles, and all the ways our bodies change with age. We’ve got a long way to go! By offering a new kind of greeting card which directly addresses the issues women face, we aim to eliminate the barriers that promote isolation, and let women know that they are not alone. We are grateful for those who want to do their best to start healthy conversations and be there for someone they care about when it is needed most. We look forward to welcoming you into our community! In 2014, Danielle, the youngest of the three sisters, gave birth to a beautiful baby girl, Sophia Rose. She was full-term and stillborn because of an umbilical cord accident. Our entire family was devastated. How could something so perfect and healthy be gone when she was just making her entrance? We were also astonished – we had worked in healthcare settings with women, yet it never occurred to us that this could happen in our family. We quickly learned how critical it was to support Danielle and one another, as well as how isolating such an experience can be, especially for parents. Some people were incredibly uncomfortable talking to us about what had happened. Many who we talked to didn’t know what to say, some even stayed completely silent, we suppose out of fear of saying the wrong thing, or just being too afraid of the foreignness of our grief. Some even said things they meant to be supportive, but hurt instead, because they were just so unaware of how they sounded to those in pain. Through this experience, we noticed how few tools there are out there for family, friends and colleagues to assist in approaching such topics. Since then, we’ve spoken to so many women, facing both similar and very different experiences. In these conversations, we’ve reflected on many life experiences, including natural milestones of womanhood, and realized how often isolation dominated those stories. We’ve remembered the numerous times we were in the opposite shoes, unsure of how best to express our support. And then we thought, “what if there was a simple and direct way to tackle the taboo of starting these conversations, and also to shape them in healthy, body-positive and effective ways?” 3 Paper Roses was created to offer support and comfort in these situations, for those in need, and also for those offering support. The name 3 Paper Roses is a testament to our inspiration and approach to this cause. We’re three sisters on a mission, using paper products as our medium for change. We chose roses to commemorate Sophia Rose, who was stillborn in May 2014. She reminds us to live everyday with love and gratitude. We love helping you give the best gifts.
