The name is one I had suggested to a software company in 2000. They decided to go in a different direction, so I decided to use it for myself. It has served me well. I opened 1SmartPuppy in 2001 with a dozen years of experience as a copywriter and marketing strategist plus a new strategic approach to positioning small business brands, which I called BrandZone. Each BrandZone showed a business owner exactly who their company was in the context of their customers and competition, what their brand position should be, a creative strategy for establishing that brand position, and a tactical guide to implementing the strategy. While business owners never failed to get a lot from their BrandZone, Internet technology was changing the game in serious ways. Increasingly, analysis and planning were out; agile marketing was in.
