Second Monday of each month, starting January 2018, 10:00 a.m. to noon. Free class series. Fun and educational classes will be offered to cancer patients, family members of the community to promote health and quality of life. Classes are free, but seating is limited. Snacks and refreshments will be provided on a first-come-first-served basis. Class topics for 2018 will include: Palliative Care: January 8 Dance and Movement Therapy: February 12 Breathing for Health: March 12 Mindful and Gentle Yoga: April 9 Harnessing Your Inner Energy: May 14 Nutrition: June 11 Enhancing Sleep: July 9 Medical Marijuana and Cancer: August 13 Touch Therapies: September 10 Botanical Medicine: October 8 Meditation and Relaxation Practices: November 5 Advance Care Planning: December 10 A voluntary questionnaire will be given at the end of all classes to evaluate the effectiveness of this series. The Conference Center at Wilmot Gardens University of Florida 2023 SW Mowry Road, Gainesville, FL 32611 Parking: Wilmot Gardens visitors can park in the small, handicap-accessible parking lot next to the conference center. SHINE Counseling Thursday, April 26 12:00pm - 2:00pm The Florida Department of Elder Affairs offers counseling that is unbiased, confidential and no cost, by trained SHINE Volunteer counselors. Walk-ins welcome. The discussion will consist of definitions, costs, options and all questions answered. Artists' Appreciation Reception Thursday, April 26 6:30pm - 8:00pm Reception and Art demonstration to thank the local artists that displayed their works with us this month. At 7:00 pm we will introduce the participating artists and an art demonstration by local artist Susan Koon will follow. Teen Events: Teen TECHspace: Makerspace for Ages 10-18 Thursday, April 05 3:00pm - 4:00pm Teen TECHspace is a makerspace for teens with hands-on activities. Bring a friend or two and join us for this fun makerspace for teens, ages 10-18. We have a mixture of coding and circuitry activities for teens along with Legos and other building materials such as Q-BA-Maze and K-Nex. Create and share your own digital stories! Use the computer to design your own stories, create and share your own animations, and learn how technology is used in the film and media industry. Club will meet weekly with classes available for students grades 4 through 8. All skill levels welcome. Storytime Thursdays, April 5, 12, 19, 26 10:30am - 11:10am Interactive storytime with literature-based fingerplay art music and puppetry for people identifying with aged five and under and their caretakers. Digging for Dinosaurs: Fun with Archaeology Tuesday, April 10 3:35pm - 5:00pm Be an archaeologist! Dig up the Legos to build an aligator, then excavate the sand to discover dinosaur bones and build your dino to take home! If you'd rather create your own dino on paper we'll have noodle bones and coffee dirt for your creations! MoneySmart Week Scavenger Hunt Sunday, April 22 1:30pm - 2:30pm Parents and kids, let's have fun with this fun scavenger hunt based on Judith Viorst's book Alexander Who Used to be Rich Last Sunday. Find the pages of the book around the library. Color in each penny as Alexander spends them. Do you think Alexander spent his money wisely? Solve the puzzle!
