Matthew Obal, MS, PA-C is the Chief Editor and Founder of Preventive Health Advisor, LLC. Mr Obal’s career started as a successful personal fitness trainer assisting others to lose weight and to reach their personal fitness goals using diet and exercise. While his clients received the benefits of reaching their fitness goals, Mr. Obal was rewarded by their success. This is how he first developed his passion for promoting the health of others. Mr. Obal graduated Magna cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA. He also completed prerequisite courses for physician assistant programs while he attended Temple. He was accepted to Allentown College PA Program, (now known as DeSales University) where he obtained a Master of Science and became a certified Physician Assistant after passing the PA certification board exam at the 95th percentile. Since that time he has been employed as a certified PA for 15 years at Shands Hospital Tertiary Care Hospital, University of Florida, Gainesville. For his first 9 years as a PA, he provided team focused all-encompassing clinical inpatient management for the Hospitalist Service under University of Florida faculty physicians. He gained experience in co-managing internal medicine, urgent care, renal transplant, cardiology, lung transplant, and bone marrow transplant patient populations. For the past 5 years, he has worked for The Bone Marrow Transplant Program at UF Health. He has provided acute care for Leukemia, Multiple Myeloma, and Lymphoma patients actively receiving chemotherapy, immunosuppressive therapy, and stem cell transplants. He has managed both acute conditions such as neutropenic fever, arrhythmias, pneumonia, fungal infections, hypoxia, chemotherapy toxicities, as well as chronic disease states including heart disease, cancer, diabetes, hypertension, and many others. After this experience in various medical disciplines, Mr. Obal has learned that most chronic diseases, and even death is preventable by practicing healthy lifestyle habits. He has stated that our society promotes eating for pleasure, drinking for euphoria, an inactive lifestyle, and taking a pill as an answer to a problem. He has determined that health is not only a consequence of what we eat, but also a consequence of what we do. Mr. Obal’s BP was 160/95 2 years ago, and after adherence to natural treatments using research, he has never needed to take BP medication. After using a self taught hypertension lowering program, his BP is now 115/72 and consistent. This is why he has decided that he has a duty to his industry and other patients who should enjoy a similar success. Due to this inspiration, he has started his own natural health company and BP lowering program. Mr. Obal believes that ideal health may be achieved by anyone using a balance of research-based nutrition, supplementation, and exercise so long as one desires it. He believes that the correct exercise and nutrition will mold and develop the body into a form which resists stress and disease.
